Antique French Berthier Modele 1892 Carbine

World War I

8x50mmR. 18" barrel length. SN: H20651. Blued metal finish with walnut straight wrist stock and mounting adjustable ladder rear notch and front blade sights. Bolt-action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged with Mannlicher pattern en-bloc clips. Left receiver is struck with the maker marking St. Etienne followed by model marking MLE 1892. Right barrel additionally marked MA S 1897, indicating the rifle was made in 1897. Further marks include SG initials to left barrel and circled M and F inspection stamps. Rifle comes with an unmarked leather sling and the cleaning rod. Serial number of the bolt matches the barrel. Stock shows signs of sanding and refinishing.

Condition
Good. Bore is dirty with some dust at the muzzle that should clean to Bright with crisp rifling. Metal finish has taken on a deep brown patina overall with some polish remaining to the bolt body and internal receiver. Sanded stock shows rounded edges and scattered scuffs, mars, and dents. Stock is cracking on the left side around the forward stock bolt. Sling shows cracking, some mold residue, and stains overall.
