Sepik River Carved Wood Figural Hook
Item/Description: Carved wood figure with cowrie shell eyes and hook feet. Suspension hook figure sometimes also known as "Samban", these hook figures were suspended from the rafters of houses and used to hang items. Typically carved in the form of ancestors and spirits. (Basket Hook, Skull Hook, Food Hook, African, Tribal, Middle Sepik River, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, Iatmul)
Material: Wood, cowrie shells, Plant fibers, natural pigments
Dimensions: Length: 22"; Width: 5 3/4"
Condition: Signs of age and wear include surface scratches, chipping, cracks. Possible old repair.
