CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH of Gustav Wiener, Company E, 29th New York Infantry.
Rare outdoor view depicting Wiener in front of tent and carrying his sword. Photograph contains the imprint of Mathew Brady, from his series “Illustrations of Camp Life.”
Wiener enlisted in April, 1861 at the age of 32 and rose in rank from corporal to 1st lieutenant. He took part in the battles of Second Bull Run (Manassas) and Chancellorsville. Wiener returned to New York upon fulfillment of two year obligation and the disbanding of the regiment.
