Rare 18th century pair of sugar nips with depictions of an African man, London, England, circa 1770, having typical form with shaped flat arms and opposing scroll handles. The outside of each nip end in relief with man's head in profile. Constructed with a blind pivot. Engraved block letter ''MS'' on pivot area. Hallmarked, maker's mark ''IH''. 5''l. Total approximate weight 1.1 troy oz. Provenance: Robert Spencer, Essex, CT, 1987.
