George III taperstick, possibly Jonathan Alleine, London, England, 1772-1773, having shaft decorated with leafage and gadrooning, a shallow well below, and square base with similar gadrooned edge. This taperstick is of substantial gauge. Fully hallmarked, with date letter for 1772-73, and maker's mark ''JA'' in script with pellet. 5-3/4''h. Total approximate weight 7.1 troy oz.
