George III sterling silver circular salver, Thomas Hannan & John Crouch, London, England, 1766-67, having a Rococo piecrust shell border, resting on large ball and talon feet. Engraved with an asymmetric cartouche containing arms, and motto reading, ''Honorem nec quaerere nec spernere, '' (Neither to seek nor to spurn honors). Fully hallmarked on base. Two feet repaired, repair to rim. 1-3/4''h, 14-1/4''dia. Total approximate weight 41.4 troy oz. Provenance: Arpad Antiques, Washington., D.C., 1969. Note: This motto is associated with the Barger Family.
