G. HERTER EXQUISTELY CARVED TALL CASE CLOCK
Gustave Herter (German, 1830-1898), c.1860, single piece construction, in walnut and burlwood, stone and painted dial marked 'G. Herter New York', movement stamped 'G. Herter New York 22423/16.2', ornately carved with claw foot caryatids flanking the dial, embellished with acanthus leaves and bell flower festoons, the case with burlwood panels decorated with heavily carved scrollwork and a garland of laurel leaves and berries, a fitted carved head finial of a bearded gent sits at pediment ledge, on flared base raised on square feet, with pendulum, lacking wind key, 94x20.5x13in.Condition: Structurally sound, dial with wear and rubs, missing 2 plaque elements (including a 3.5in. empty square frame at center of upper case which is lacking its bottom frame rail, and a 5.25x1.75in. empty rectangular frame at base waist), minor wood loss at corner of flared base (see images).
