Print of an open letter sent by R. Shimshon Refoel Hirsch to R. Tzvi Hirsch Lehren and R. Eliyahu Avrohom Printz, strongly opposing the reform movement. As is well known, in an effort to bolster authentic Torah views, R. Hirsch would often write open letters. The letter was written when R. Hirsch was in Emden.
R. Shimshon Refoel Hirsch (1808 –1888), was a disciple of Chacham Isaac Bernays and R. Yaakov Ettlinger (Aruch L’Ner). Known as an outstanding Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav in various communities in Germany most notably Frankfurt. He battled mightily and incessantly against the reform movement and under his devoted leadership the Orthodox Jewish community in Germany blossomed. Founder of the “Torah im Derech Eretz” philosophy, his contribution to Torah-true Judaism is immeasurable.
Seemingly unrecorded.
